Hi,
I'm new to the board and was looking into early 911s to convert for club events. Any reasons not to get an old 912? Or are there any specific years that would be a better starting point than others? Thanks Princeton |

912s are good to use if you want to eventually go do some vintage racing such as the 2L series with HSR or with VARA. I don't know if they are any cheaper or not but they look good. Good luck.

Well, 69 was the first year of the long wheelbase. Not a factor if you are changing the suspension and rear quarter panels though.
But the BIG issue is rust. The mid-year '70 on bodies got galvanizing on all the important structural and suspension parts. '76-on got full galvanizing. A 912 is going to have different rear motor mount provisions. ------------------ Tyson Schmidt 72 911 Cabriolet 92 C-2 Cabriolet |

Chaging the wheelbase is a big job, having just done it, I would not do it again, go for a 69 or newer. You have to cut out and weld in bannana arm pick up points (includes trani mounting points) and the shock mount points. BTW I think the winner of the POC Tribute to Le Mans started life as a 912.
