Easiest way is start with removing the gauge pulling slowly, there's enough room to pull it out completely.
After note the connection of all your wires and disconnect the gauge.
Then just shake it gently, if your gears are broken, you'll hear the peace (peaces) move around, or even see them. if not then you can check for other solutions.
It's the simplest first step in my opinion.
It might be a good time to send it to North Hollywood.
Had the same problem with mine.
Sent it this winter, had the gears fixes, the faceplate change to KM/H and the glass changed,etc)
It now looks like new and works great.
(next winter, I'm sending the rest of my gauges).
