why use SS fuel lines in the tunnel?

I have a set of SS fuel lines which I'm going to install (because they came with the car - but in looking at the application (inside tunnel) and the fact that today's fuel injection line would most likely outlast the plastic lines that Porsche used in my 914-6 in 1970. I'm wondering why folks just don't pull a length of new fuel injection line through the tunnel as they pull out the plastic? Would seem like one continuous section of line with two factory style clamps would be as robust as a SS line and 4 clamps and the same rubber line (weak link). Is this oversimplifying or am I overlooking something? I'm thinking for low pressure applications (carbs).
