Should I replace this fork thingy? (pic)
 

I removed the lower cover to my 915 transmisson today, my gasket was leaking there. Upon inspection, I noticed that the fork has been worn away abit on the upper edges. Should I replace the fork? I also noticed that the bolts holding the fork in place were very loose! I mean, loose enough for me to turn them with my fingers! There was also alot of metal shavings on my drain plug magnet. Nothing really large, but quite a bit of metal.
I have ordered some SWEPCO 210.

Very timely post. I did the same thing last week. The mechanic pulled everything apart, the same fork you have pictured was loose and worn because of it. This was a large factor in the sloppy shifting I had been complaining about.

Replace the fork and tighten the nuts down real good. I don't mess with little crap like that. The potential harm of other expensive parts is too great.

Hey, speaking of which, could you get all of your tranny fluid out by removing that? I can't get my tranny drain plug off. Someone tightened the ***** out of it at some point?
Even if I can't get all the fluid out, that's fine, I just wanna get most of it out and put in some new swepco. let me know guys.

I can dam near stick my fist up in the hole left over after removing this peice!! In fact, you can look up in there and see the gears and what not. Im pretty sure you would get about 99% of the gear oil out if you took this peice off. The replacement gasket is 78 cents here at Pelican. You might wanna think about eventually getting your plug out. I was freaking amazed at the amount of metal shavings on the magnet. Mine was on really tight too. I bought a 17MM hex allen wrench lookin thing from SEARS and used a 2 foot pipe over the end, to give the breaker bar effect, just to get mine moving.

Hey Kurt you could just use a .357 Magnum tool to get the oil out :D

Seriously though, I'd try Kemos suggestion with the pipe, just use slow even pressure and work it loose. I did the very same thing on a 915 recently after it sat two years.
