4.5 X 15 Fuchs question
Hey Guys,
I have a 67 912 that I am almost done restoring ... I need new tires so I started look at options and realized that the wheels are 4.5 x 15. I have a set of five, they are definitely old and definitely light but I'm wondering if there are any marks to authenticate them as real fuchs? I have no reason to believe that they are replicas but I don't want to misrepresent them. The 4.5x15's seem to have a good bit of value and being that this is a 912, although done very nicely, I want it to be a nice driver and I'm wondering if swapping to a 5.5x15 would make more sense and letting someone who wants a 4.5 from an authenticity perspective have (buy) these? I can post pictures if it helps. They are regular polished fuchs with the inset section painted black. The only mark says 4 1/2 JX15. Also is it possible that these came on the car from new because that changes things. Thanks for any help! |

They are some "Fooks" replica that empi makes for VW swaps and porsche
Take pictures of the castings in the back of the wheels and post them. Im sure in no time you will get all your answers Personally I like the look of the 5.5x15 over the 4.5x15 Someone looking for originality will be interested in yours

the only stamp i can find is what i took a picture of. I think after 45 years the likelihood of finding a rubber stamp like I have seen in some pictures is next to impossible. I know they are at least 20 years old as they came on the car when the PO bought it. I wish they had a pn stamped on them but from my research 67 4.5s did not get any markings?

Further cleaning revealed the part number and fox. So I guess the question is are they worth more than a similar set of 5.5's and should I keep them or trade them?

They are worth *a lot* more than 5.5"s.
Besides the 7 R, the 9" and 11" rims in 15" diameter, they are the most sought after. |

Fuchs
Do the wheels have a date stamp? I am not sure if the early wheels did, but my deep sixes have an engraved date on the back on the flat ridge that sort of runs between the lugs holes.

on the inside of one spoke is the size, on another spoke is "25205.2" and the fox head. Below that is 901 361 0 12 01. More inset near the bolt holes/ hub area is a fox head in one spot and an "A" in another. That's all I've got.

You have some VERY valuable wheels. Really early wheels had the dates ink stamped.
BTW, 4.5" Fuchs can command over a grand per wheel. Don't sell them.
