couple of questions
Hey there,
I was under the '77 2.7 today and noticed something. 1) My engine is pretty dry, but there is a hard hollow tube hanging down near the passenger side rear strut tower. It comes from somewhere near the rear of the longblock and is happily dripping oil onto my garage floor (not much, but it's a spot in the concrete). Should there be a hose connected to it or something? What is it? 2) also, I've been having a heck of a time since I bought my 911 keeping dibs on oil level. I check it when it's warm and level, but I find it continuosly reading low about every 1000 miles. I fear that I will overfill it andd make a oilly mess. Any tips on not to overfill? I'd like to figure this out before I do the SSI route to avoid oil all over the place on some nice new exchangers. Thanks, Pete

Pete,
If the hard line you are talking about is just forward of the oil cooler, and looks like #45 in the diagram ... it is just called an 'outlet tube' in the parts catalog ... and was connected to the air claener housing on all 2.0 thru 2.7 engines! There is supposed to be a #46 rubber 'valve' attached, much like that found on VW Type 1-3 engines ... p.n. 901.108.297.00 ... I guess you could say it is a dump tube! ![]()

Pete:
Based on my experiance and the info in the Factory manual, one quart every 1k would be normal consumption for the 2.7. As far as oil hitting the H/Es, its going to happen with our motors no matter what we do. You won't believe the difference the SSIs make on a 2.7. Good luck.
