Steering wheel replacement for my 3,2 Carrera

Hi guys.

I'm thinking about replacing my stock steering wheel for something a little bit more sexy. I'm thinking about something like the MOMO Prototipo with a Porsche crest as center cap.

Do you have any other suggestions ?

Also, I'm wondering where's the best way/place to buy it (online, here on Pelican Parts, ...) and if I'll loose the horn.

Nic

I liked my Momo, but in the end decided I like the extended factory 3-spoke wheel better. And I like it even better refinished with a thicker grip.

Being able to see all the speedo was what tipped it for me.

I could not find a picture of mine, but I have the 930 wheel that looks like this one.

Wow, that's looks awesome Samourai !

A few questions :
1- does your horn is working ?
2- do you see all the tach and speedo ?
3- does it make steering harder because of it's smaller diameter ?

Thanks.

I have the same wheel in my 86 targa, and love the feel. The only issue is that you cant read the speedo from say 60-100mph!

Rotate the spedo so the 60-100 is visible since that is probably the speed range that is most important. That's what I do. Yes the horn works off the center cap.

You will struggle to see the speedometer at most normal road speeds with the smaller diameter wheel.

Which is one of the reasons why I went with a 370mm Abarth instead of the Prototipo. A bit more money, but worth it to me.

1-yes the horn still works
2-it's an improvement from the original steering wheel. It's still hard to see, some people slant the speedo to see the 60-100km range.
3-well, it's different but much lighter, you get used to it pretty quick.

Here's with the new crest...

Here's a poor pic of a good wheel - Momo Retro - 10mm bigger than the Prototipo. I like it a lot.

Just put the Momo Prototipo on my 87. Where do you get the Porsche crest? Haven't been able to find that on the site...

Love the Retro, I have one in my car too.

I did a one day Bridgestone Racing Academy course in Formula Ford style cars and they had Prototypo type steering wheels. The instructor said that the only serious injuries they ever got were when people put their fingers into the holes and crashed lbrecing their fingers up. That wrote off the Prototypo styel wheel for me.

Not many places have them anymore, as I don't think Momo is still making them. I got mine from LTB Auto Sports. Only place I found that had the real Momo/Porsche button, not an Asian knock-off.

Ebay.
If you need the black one let me know for the ebay seller info.
Beware of knock-offs.

I'll admit it... That's an asian knock-off button on my Retro, but I also have to admit that it works and looks pretty good. If I find the real deal someplace, the knock-off only cost me about $25 and I'll keep it as a spare.
