Thank You Stalltek in Wellman, IA
I've been battling a small drivability and idle issue with my 86 3.2 since I purchased the car last July. The car seemed to run rich at idle, and during hard acceleration (little puffs of black smoke). The idle also would not come down below 1100 or so rpms even with the idle valve centered and the throttle body air screw screwed all the way in. I was leaning towards a vacuum leak somewhere, but I was unable to narrow down the exact cause of the problem.
Unfortunately, there aren't too many Porsche mechanics in Iowa, so finding someone knowledgable and experienced with these cars is tough. I heard about Stalltek from a PCA member, and decided to give them a try. They specialize in 356 restoration, and have absolutely phenomenal metal working skills. After a brief conversation they wanted me to bring the car in to take a look. To make a long story short, the intake manifold gaskets were shot. The guys also found that the car had an adjustable fuel pressure regulator installed, and it was turned way up, probably to compensate for the intake leaks. The guys replaced the gaskets, and some other while you're in there items for what I thought was a very reasonable price. I can't be happier with the way the car runs now. I wanted to publicly thank the guys at Stalltek, and pass along their name to any other Iowa owners looking for a little assistance. Stalltek 1260 120th St Wellman, IA 319-646-2885

Thanks for the kind words. When your car was in a friend stopped by and said "Are you sure you want to work on this later stuff." I told him that we need to keep these 911s on the road so when 356s are to "valuable to drive and are setting in museums and garages we'll still have something to work on. I hope that doesn't happen but it's rare to see a 356 on the road any more. Lee
