1976 intermittent knob wiper knob?

Did Porsche change the size of the intermittent wiper knob after '76? The Pelican part is too short to fit my car.

The part number has been superceded, so maybe... What part number did you get and how long is it? Do you have a spacer sleeve on the potentiometer shaft?

I got the superceded one. Pelican told me that Porsche discontinued making the ones that would fit my '76.
Not long enough.
I can send you a pic., but when you look at the shaft from the dashboard, it goes like this: nut - threads - and pin with a flat side.
The knob from Pelican fits over the shaft but stops at the threads.
I don't know if it has a spacer sleeve on the shaft.

The original knob was 23mm long and stopped at the threads; it did not fit over them. There is supposed to be a spacer on the back side of the dash. It fits over the threaded shaft on the potentiometer, between the body of the switch and the back of the dash sheet metal. The threaded portion just barely extends far enough through the dash to install the wave washer and thin nut. The end of the shaft is about 14mm from the face of the dash.

Maybe you are missing the spacer.

I am not entirely clear on what you're saying. Can you draw me a picture?
Maybe I need to back out the threaded shaft so that it barely comes through the dash?

Unscrew the nut and remove the switch. See if you have a spacer on the switch shaft, behind the dash, that is about 8mm long.

The order of parts is switch, spacer, dash sheet metal, wave washer, nut, knob.

So I am assuming you are saying that the threads are sticking out too far and it should be located farther behind the dash and I should back it out?
