1983 911SC Cab - heater fan not working

I am new to this forum but have been a 911 fan for all my life. I have been looking at a 1983 911SC Cabriolet - it appears in great shape but has the usual wear (ripped seat, etc). The price is great (11K) with 153K miles. There are 2 issues with the car that I would appreciate some comment on:
	1. The internal heater/air fan does not work - I am guessing this is not an expensive repair 2. More troublesome is the gear box. It grinds into 1st when in motion and 2nd gear is a 2 step process: shove it into 2nd (where it naturally sits) then pull down further (until the shifter touches the driver seat). Obviously I'm concerned about this and will insist on an inspection but wanted to get some thoughts on this. Once in gear it drives incredible - all other gears are fine. Also, oil pressure is about 1 bar per 2000 rpm - I have heard that normal is 1 bar per 1000 rpm so not sure if this car is on the good side of that or the bad side. Any comments appreciated. |

I can't comment on the gear box. However, 1 BAR/1K RPM's is indeed normal after complete engine warm-up, but can be somewhat dependent on oil viscosity. Not sure if the heater fan is engine mounted for your M/Y, however, it could be as simple as a fuse, or motor replacement which are both simple fixes. Lot's of great members on this forum who I'm certain will chime in with credible comments. Good luck, Gerry |

Post on the Canada forum to get a recommendation for a local PPI http://forums.pelicanparts.com/canada/.
The heater fan (there is 2 fans and people mix them up all the time: Heater fan mounted on the engine is activated by the red levers between the seats and could be a fuse on the rear fuse panel as mentioned by 86 911 Targa unplugged or the switch contacts. The fresh air blower is in the front trunk and activate it by the sliders on the dash, either one are easy fixes. The 915 grinding could be as simple as the clutch not fully press in (you have to touch the floor) or having the coupler re-bushed (less then $50. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/649265-coupler-whisperer.html and the whole set up align properly. As for the Oil Pressure, as long as it deflect linearly between 0 and 5 Bar as the RPM increase I would not fret over it. Oil type/viscosity, oil restrictor upgrade or bad sender could be the cause. If you know anybody that drive a "915" have them go for a spin. Price is great so a couples of $1,000 of repair id by the PPI is not a deal breaker. Cab are the best, bonne chance. |
