Engine mount Washer orient

I put aftermarket rear mounts on the 87 Carrera and it seems to me the big washers on either side of the mount should be so that the lip curves AWAY from the rubber NOT into it i.e. like this )( not () pinching the rubber.
Any thoughts appreciated.
George

Good luck on that one... You'll get it from both side

If it was to be meant to be mount like )=( might as well use a cheap flat washer since the concave part going away from the mount is totally useless.

Factory installation is concave away from the mount. You want the rubber isolation from the mount to the body otherwise you defeat the purpose of the mount.

Hmmmm interesting. I put mine this way (=) because once I took an old mount I was going to throw away and put it in my hydraulic press and the center rubber part pushed out fairly easily. I think under hard acceleration they are under some pressure to separate as the engine 'squats', so I'd like the washers to catch the rubber before it pops out. But I'll try turning them around next time the engines out (soon... I pull my engine for valve adjustments).

I had aftermarket mounts in mine and switched to factory genuine - the difference was night and day.... just an fyi.

I researched the orientation at one time, as mine were installed () which seemed wrong to me. I found out that )( was factory but at one time there was a TSB that advised turining them to () if customers complained about something.

I currently have my aforementioned factory mounts installed () but plan to try )( to see if there is a further improvement to the NVH inside the cockpit.

Very interesting. Mine are (). I replaced the 4 mounts about 3 months ago and reinstalled them in the same () orientation. My car is stock with full service history showing no one ever touching the mounts. Wondering if I should switch them around to see what happens.

FWIW I installed the stiffer OEM Cabrio engine mounts and it was a huge improvement.

Good Question - I just changed the motor mounts on my 88 coupe, and put the washers back like I found them (=), but it looked like the washers were cupped over the rubber, keeping the rubber from flexing.
