Roll bar for a Cabriolet?

Folks,

I want to start doing the Autocross and DE courses, but they both require the addition of a roll bar. I have no problem with that - I like roll bars - but I cannot give up the use of the rear seats.

Does anybody know of a brand of roll bar that either doesn't make the back seats useless, and/or can be partially removed from the vehicle when not "racing". I would like to use a roll bar where the main hoop stays in place even if some of the cross support members have to be removed.

I did see one made by "Autoparts" which met my criteria, but, it would be nice if my kids didn't suffer head injuries on the mounting brackets for the cross supports. Big protruding brackets designed to inflict scalp wounds... now that sounds like something my wife will like.

Any help?

Autopower makes roll bars with removable diagonal and cross braces.

Also check out DAS roll bars (Dougherty). They bolt to the seat belt mounting points, no cutting (at least on some models). They are easiest to take in and out for each event.

Mikez / Widebody911, how much are these roll hoops from Race Xcessories?

Here's a URL for AutoPower's products & pricing:

I am thinking about doing the same thing- perhaps we could combine an order, and get a discount for 2 rollbars. Might save some $$ on shipping as well. When you decide what bar to purchase let me know- I will call from the auction and might be able to get a wholesale price....
Let me know!

Hay Mikey, does the "broomstick rule" apply to the bunny ears? :-)

Guys,

I poked around the web looking at Autopower roll bars. Looks like they make a "street" model with just the main hoop and no diagonal braces. And a model with the removable braces, the "Race" roll bar.

I have seen the removable brace model and believe me those protruding mounting brackets left on after removing the braces are big and nasty. Just the sort of thing a four-year old would hurt himself on getting in or out of the rear seats.

So the question becomes, does the "street" model (without braces or protruding brackets) meet the standards for the autocross and DE courses? Anybody know?

I had one that bolted to the seatbelt & shoulder harness mounting holes in my '87 Cab. Didn't screw up the interior, and removed completely in about 30 minutes. Also had a removable crossbrace. I think it was made by Safety Devices.

Who made the dealer installed cabriolet roll bars back when they were new?

Das Roll Bar in my Cab. Takes about 45 min to install/remove. I wouldn't want to leave any partial parts behind if I had small kids. Too easy to get cut or too easy to bang into.

I had a Kirk Racing in my 91. It bolts through the floor and to the seat belt mounts on the tunnel. No welding but you do have to commit to holes through the floor in the rear. The back seat is useless, but when you take it out there are no brackets left in the car. All the mounting brackets are part of the roll bar.
