Market on a 96 or 97 993TT

Does anyone have the feel for the market price on 993 Twin Turbo. 96 or 97? My impression is they have been coming down in price the last 6 months or so. But how far? From what I can tell they are still being offered higher than some of the values in Nada or Kelly. Are they selling for that?

Several dealers have told me that the market on the newer Porsche's is VERY soft! I've been trying to sell my 97 Targa now for a few weeks and haven't seen much action on it. I've seen quite a few 993 Turbo's for sale but the prices still seem a bit high. One dealer said to me "They may be asking high dollars but I bet they're not getting it"
"They" being private sellers as well as dealers. I would bet that you can get a good deal on one if you spend time haggling especially if you wait a month or two.

That's what I have been thinking. Kelly and Nada put the 96 in the low to mid $ 70's. I've been seeing them offered in the high $70's to mid $80's. But I haven't been able to confirm any actual purchases.

Coincidentally, I am have a 97 Targa that I will be selling if I purchase the TT. What kind of activity are you seeing on yours? My impression of that market is $ 44K to $ 50K. Am I close?

point of note:

i was in the dealership getting an inspection this saturday.

the sales manager came over and said he wishes porsche would go back to the older style targa top like my 1991.

he said they just cannot sell the newer glass roofed targas, noone wants one.

i was suprised.

I'm not sure what the market is selling at with Targa's but most are listed at $54-60k still. The one I was referring to was a red '97 6 spd with 31,000 miles and the dealer has it listed for $47.5k! I think this is actually a low price but he is not getting much action at all. I have mine listed for $55,900 right now. If I can't sell mine above $50k, then I'm just going to keep it and drive the hell out of it!

It doesn't surprise me that they can't sell the new Targa's since all the ones I've seen have been optioned out and are listed around $90k!

The sad thing is that they are great cars and attract alot of attention but there just aren't many buyers out there right now.

Another funny thing on the used market...a friend of mine in Florida is looking for a good used 993...a C2 "S" seems to be what his search has narrowed to. He called Brumos this morning, asked if they had any used 993 models he could sit in and/or drive, to see if the ergometrics worked. The salesman he talked to wondered why he didn't want to look at the new 996's...uh, I think the salesman knew why. But the bottom line? BRUMOS had NO used 993's for my friend to look at. IMHO? Look for the last of the air cooled cars to remain in the hands of their owners, while dealers go nutzo trying to unload the waterpumpers...

I don't pay much attention to the late-model 911 market, with the exception of 96-97 993tt's. They are about my favorite car, they seem to pull very strong prices, judging by asking prices and bids on ebay, but with these it's the old "condition squared". Lots of them are garage-queens w/ very low miles, many in close to showroom cond. w/ under 10k miles, these things are typically 2nd or 3rd cars of the rich. The garage queens seem to pull $75k+ on ebay. And worth every cent, IMO. They're definitely not for people on a budget, though. With 400hp and AWD, they eat clutches and tires, plus other scheduled maintenence is pricey. Insurance is another subject, but you know, "if you have to ask"...

Amazing difference!

Down here in Oz land, the 993tt's still fetch between $160-180k, even more for the later '98 models

E.G:-

Porsche 911 Twin Turbo 39,000km 1996 $172,950 White/Black, 1 Owner

Porsche 911 Twin Turbo 1995 $159,950 Met Black/Red leather

Doesn't that JUST "BLOW" ?!?!?
