Fuel Problem
I have a 1984 3.2 Carrera. It idles fine and at high rpm's. When I idle or slow down at a stop light it's like a fuel starvation problem. then it bucks and sputters or stalls. It starts back up but after a short while it starts acting up again unless I can get up to @50 mph. I'm thinking best and cheapest guess is a fuel filter, although the old filter only has about 8000 miles on it. Any other suggestions? Hope it's not a ECU. Thanks for any help.

I wouldn't suspect a fuel filter problem with those symptoms, since it runs good at high RPM's (and I'm assuming high load) which is when a clogged fuel filter will have the most problems flowing fuel.
For that the first place I'd look is the idle control valve (ICV), starting with checking the base idle speed. You can search for both those terms. When you cold start it, does it correctly run a fast idle for the first few minutes and then the idle settles down? Chuck.H '89 TurboLookTarga, 351k miles |
