better seat belts for early 911s

I just discovered how weak and ineffective the 3 point belt system is in my newly acquired 1970 911T.
I'd like to replace those belts with some retractable 3 point belts from another car that would be relatively easy to mount and would look somewhat like they belong.
If anyone has made this change, I'd appreciate learning form your work and research.

Old Volvos seem to have a good crossover factor for that kind of stuff.

I bought two sets of retractable belts with aircraft style buckles from California Import Parts PN C26-857-033
Bolted the retractor end into the rear seat belt belts attachment point but found out later there was an attachment point about mid point between the "B" pillar and the floor. I feel much better having replaced the dry rot belts that were there.

I installed a retractable 3-point set from an '80s SC in my '71. I scored the set off fleabay a few years ago for under $100, it even included the rear set.
My car had the mounts behind the front seats on the sides for the retracting units, but not the mounts on the rocker panels or the center tunnel. I had to fab those mounts, which for me, was not a big deal. Definitely worth the effort, IMO, to have 911 retractable belts.

The PE Parts seatbelts work really well in my car and look like they belong.

The belts may be no longer available from PE Parts but you can regularly find sets for 911s on the web. Note that there is a difference between targas and coupes belts.

Unfortunately, I just installed race seats and harnesses. Here is a picture of the location of the mounts, when I did the install. The red arrow shows the mount for the retractor reel. This was factory installed, as was the upper mount on the B pillar (green). The Yellow arrow points to the mount I fabbed. All mounts are female 11mm threads like modern belts use.

The tunnel mount uses short pieces of angle iron securely bolted down.

Strangely, my '71 owner's manual shows the stock belt mounted to the rocker panel, but my car did not have that mount. Starting in '72 retractable belt were a factory option.
I don't know what older cars would have been equipped with.
Hope this helps
