Tire recommendations for a daily driver?
Looking for new all seasons for my Carrera. Live in CT and drive year round. No crazy snow, no 130mph track days, just nice spirited driving. Probably put max 5-8k per year on the car. Running stock staggered 16" fuchs.
I'm seeing 4 Potenza RE970AS Pole Positions for about $475+45 shipping at Tire Rack. Haven't bought car tires for a while. Any tips or suggestions appreciated.

Continental DW are very tough to beat. I had them on my 1986 911 last time. I also have used the Ventus V12 EVO...another very good tire. I'd say either one of these will do the trick..and you'd be quite pleased with either.
Continetals $406 per set: Continental*ExtremeContact DW Hankooks $356: Hankook*Ventus V12 evo K110

The DWS is much more towards all season..including light snow.
The DW is the better tire..and handles rain beautifully....but no snow.

Huh the DW (dry wet) are cheaper than the DWS (dry wet snow) Continental*ExtremeContact DWS
Anyone have experience with DWS? Worth it?

The Conti DW (as a Summer tire that tolerates wet) gets a bit hard when the temp drops. DWS is better if you drive when its 40 or less. Probably nothing wrong with the RE970, but I've never been a big Bridgestone fan personally. Has more to do with how the company treated its dealers in the '80s than the tires themselves, truth be known.

I have BF Goodrich g-Force Super Sport A/S tires on my 911 and like them just fine for "everyday" driving year 'round.

I have Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus on my '80 SC and greatly prefer them over the RE970AS which I used prior to the Michelins.
In my experience the Bridgestones were louder and did not last as long. The Michelins were installed nearly 2.5 years ago and have ~15k miles and they look brand new. I drive the 911 primarily on the highway and NorCal back roads in a spirited manner. I sometimes also get caught in a rain shower and they feel incredibly planted while creating a healthy rooster tail. ![]() |

Another vote for the Conti DWS.
I've had two sets now on my Audi Quattro. If you want any semblance of performance out of an all season tire, these have been great all around and even do a decent job up getting me up my driveway in light now. |

I've got DWS on my Audi Avant and like them, too. I will probably try the DW on the 911 next time around. Mostly because they are cheap as hell!

not sure of your location in CT but there is a guy near my office in North Haven that is very competive on pricing once you deceid on the tire. Tire Express *(Mike) 203-782-0045

I also run the Hankook Ventus V12 Evos and really like them. However, I don't see much foul weather where I live.
I ran the BFG g-Force Sport A/S on a E39 BMW and wore them out really, really fast. Not apples to apples, but worth a mention.

Since I drive year round I do think I need something that doesn't turn to stone below 40deg. Not going to be doing any snow plowing, but it goes below 40 degrees all the way through... well... last night. Leaning to the Conti DWS.

I have used them on several occasions. Fair pricing, and as long as you’re not concerned about a scuff or two on your lug nuts they are good.
If you’re looking for high speed balancing I’m not sure they can do that so ask them before you commit. RIMs look great. I'll be saving that thread for when its time for mine to get refreshed. BTW not sure what cure time is like on the paint but I have a paint oven if you want to run them through.
