8's vs 9's "look" on an SC
OK, so I've completed the changeover from 9's to 8's in the rear as discussed on other threads.
Thought I'd post some pics of the car with both iterations as there were some querries about how the different set ups look. Deeper part of the 9's comes on the backside, I guess. So here ya go. This is with 9's and 245's: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1367613110.jpg This is with 8's and 225's: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1367613166.jpg Not a great deal of difference. Cheers Scott |
Those look great either way. I'd like to go with 7's and 8's with mine eventually.....
|
:D the difference is very minute  but its still NICE SmileWavy

Thanks for the post. I'm sure it will be useful. I just sold my 7&8's and at one time was thinking, I could pick up a set of 9's. Glad I didn't(already having the 8s). I did just order a set of 8&9's though.

They both look good to me. I run an 8 inch rim with a 225 tire and a 1/4inch spacer. It fills the wheel well pretty nice.
|
I can't see any difference from the outside. If the extra inch goes to the inside you'll have more room with 8's to hit the corners hard at the track!
|
The wheels on the outside looks the same and we all know the extra inch is to the back. However look at the pics and you will notice that the one with the 9's, the tire rest closer out almost parallel to the top of the fender well. On the second pic with the 8's it seats a bit inside of the well but not by much as the 9's are 15 off set and the 8's are 10's. Again there is almost no difference unless you really are looking for it. Plus on 8's with a fat 225 it will still look as if it has 245's.
SB the car looks awesome! |
Brian,
I just think the look of the 8's "fits"better, mainly because the 225 tire size is the 'correct" size for those hips. The 245's to my taste, are over kill. On your "birthin' hips" turbo, it is another story entirely. Post up a pick after ya get her put back together. |
IP,
Thanks. It's a bit of a lighting illusion. Look hard at the two photo's, and you'll see the top photo (with the 9's) is exposed a bit darker then the lower photo. But, it might be a whisker "fuller", due maybe to the 245's being a bit less then an inch wider (.35 of an inch each side. Maybe for a lark I'll buy 245's the next time, mount them on the 8's and take another pic. Cheers Scott |
225 look "right" on the 8" wheels. The 245s I had mounted on them were on the edge of too wide. The sidewall blocked vertical. I like similar sidewall symetry front and rear, which you have now with the 8/225 combo.

spacers
What performance implications does adding a spacer do for me? I've got a couple laying around, each at 1/4 inch. So my rear track becomes a half inch wider.
I might also add the top pic has 225's in the front mounted on 7's and the bottom is 205's mouted on 7's. Also looks more "right" in my opinion. Cheers Scott |
bare wheel to bare wheel
the Fuchs 9ET15 outer lip is 8.3mm further outboard, the inner lip is 17.1mm further inboard than the Fuch 8ET10.6. if you add an 8.3mm spacer to an 8 the outer lip is in exactly the same place. increasing front track increases oversteer or decreases understeer if you prefer increasing rear track increases understeer or decreases oversteer if you prefer to get the most grip from a given tire use the widest wheel which is spec'ed for it a 245/45 will perform better on a 9 than on an 8. an 225/50x16 is not spec'ed for a 9 |
7 & 8's look great on an SC.
|
Bill, your input is valuable and easy to understand as usual. Much thanks.
