1988 Carrera door not opening from inside

My driver's side door will not open from the inside. Last year, I added dynamat to the doors to try to seal it up acoustically and I thought maybe it was gumming up the mechanism. But, I opened it up, cut away all the dynamat and I still have the problem.

With the door panel off, I can pull the lever and the door will open but when I reassemble the panel, there isn't enough pull to disengage the door latch. I tried turning the pin to shorten it but ran out of room.

I'm thinking the cable is stretched. Is there any mechanism inside the door to tighten the cable?
