bent door release rod

Looks like I bent my innser door release rod -- the rod that the inside latch attaches too.

any tips on bending it back? Also, is it supposed to be completely straight?

assume some map gas and a vice?

Which rod do you mean? Between the pivot and the handle or the Bowden cable between the pivot and the actual latch?

Those are pretty weak. I broke one trying to bend it cold. Heat would be a good idea.

I just replaced this entire mechanism. Porsche no longer makes the original version... Superceded to a later version that requires a new style that is a bit longer. My point is that if you break it you'll need to replace this rod, the pivot, and the Bowden cable with the newer style... Assuming you want new parts vs used.

For me I replaced both sides with the new updated parts. My original 82 bowden cables were super stiff and the cable housing was rusted. Interesting the original SC Bowden cable wasn't a cable at all... It's a stiff thin metal wire in a cable housing. The updated version is much better as it's an actual cable which is much more flexible. I think the superceded part date was 86 or 87 but not sure.

thanks. I think heat will work. it was an unforseen consequence from trying to adjust my window.
