is it mandatory to use the mfi fuel cut -off relay? can I get away with not using it?

You can run without it but be ready for some enormous trailing throttle backfires. You might cause alarm to the general population and shorten your muffler life. Fit the relay and micro switch.

Porboynz nailed it. What's your reason for wanting to lose it, greyes59?

Ran without for 18 years, stinks like hell on throttle lift, no back fires, ever, sooty plugs, car ran great. Up to you.

I had to fix mine as my 2.4 back fires like a cannon without it. If you can not find a stock replacement there are aftermarket RPM actuated devices that will do the job. I think even an aftermarket rev limiter could even do the job if you could set it for say 1400 RPM.
