930 Air Intake Sensor - Grounded

Trying to figure out why this would have been done... The car starts and runs at idle perfectly, of course runs rich (smoky at start-up only), which I suspect why the previous owner had the sensor grounded?!? That is what I'm looking at right?

Do you techies agree? I've attached a picture.

not familiar with the stock 930 set up back there, but i believe thats your over boost switch that PO grounded - which puts you in precarious position...boost is fun, but boost can ruin your engine - that's why the switch is there to protect it...if its grounded, its as if its not there = fuel pumps don't shut off when you go beyond boost limits and...that's the practical explanation...gurus will say it gooder!!!
...maybe, possibly its a faulty switch???

wholio94112 above is absolutely correct. This is usually done if someone adds an aftermarket wastegate spring or boost controler and wants to tempt fate with crazy boost levels, or is too cheap to pay to replace the $25 dollor overboost switch if it goes bad . . .

I need a service manual for this thing...!!! Here I thought it was an air sensor---

Dan, if you search in the 930 forum, using keywords such as "overboost switch", "overboost relay" and the like, you will find all you need to know about that system and its various components.
