Interesting fender mount cooler(s) set up!!

I've been chasing an oil leak at my cooler fittings since I installed it :-(. Went with conical washer on one side. Other side might still be leaking. Sucks!!

Todd

Thanks for the kind words, Quattrorunner.
Todd, oil leaks are a real bummer. I know that I'll be chasing a few of them soon enough!
Cheers,
Johan

Got my new RE-11s installed onto my refinished 930 rims yesterday.

I was quite impressed with the new tire installation equipment used which avoids marring the backside rim edges and protects the centre rim hole edge with a nylon lined collar.

The balancing machine was also a treat. Notice the five long studs that push directly onto the holes for the wheel studs thereby avoiding touching the face of the wheels.

I did also instal TPMS by Orange which displays pressure, temperature and battery voltage. I have been using this system on my 997 for the past three years and I think that it's a great value and insurance for only $150. Not period correct but safety and convenience rules in my case.

More soon.
Johan

A few more mods to go. Purists will probably cringe as I add weight to the build.
Many years ago I modified the A/C in my now crashed '86 Carrera to handle the hot and sticky Toronto summers and horrible traffic. This entailed removing the rear condenser and replacing it with one from a 993 installed in the left front fender along with an appropriate fan and all new barrier hoses, a Denso compressor from a 993 and a larger lower centre vent in the cockpit (in place of the traditional bow tie vent). The system worked very well so I decided to essentially duplicate it in the RST.
A new main 964/993 condenser and fan installed into the left front fender.......

Edit: you can view the pics correct side up in post #110, below. Should remember that posting from an iPad screws up any uploads.

Only space left for the horns was on either side of the main condenser.
In the last pic above, the vertical arm to the left of the condenser attaches to the bottom of the headlight bucked.
(Because this is a long hood, I mounted the condenser lengthwise (with the connections to the upper rear) so that it would not hang below the RS valance. In a short hood, space is even tighter because of the intruding bumper and shocks so the condenser has to be placed upright to clear the front tire.)

Rennaire Pro-Cooler (an upgrade from my previous system)....

New front condenser.....

Fortunately the barrier hoses were all re-useable as the Denso compressor.
More soon.

No cringing here. A road car should have a few conveniences to make driving pleasurable (otherwise they just languish in the garage and don't get driven). I know I wussed out this weekend and didn't drive my Targa because it was 90+°F locally.

That Orange TPMS is pretty cool! (I had to look that up.) Do you know the average battery life of the individual wheel sensors?

Surprising but understandable. Even commendable. I'm going to do it too.

Thanks guys. Always encouraging.

fanaudical, re: your question, the Orange TMPS manual says that the batteries last 5-7 years but who knows. I'm on my forth year on the 997. I note that the system now costs only $129.00 on Amazon. A no brainer to me.

Quattrorunner, a real benefit to moving the condenser to the front left fender is that you now have space for a big side to side intercooler.:-) I still have some pics of my set-up for a short hood and I also have some re-usable brackets should you be interested.

Cheers,
Johan

hey

beautiful build.... I really like the quality 'functional bits' you've added, (TPMS/updated A/C) shows your intent to use the car as it was intended.

Less than a gallon of Lizard Skin was used and if you factor that the product is water based I would guess that the residual would equate to less than a quart of water. Negligible weight gain I would say.

Great build. The TPMS and condenser give me ideas for the future. I can't believe how good the Fuchs came out with the pour method.
