So, I'm replacing the steering support Bushing and..

it already looks like my 1985 911 has some sort of after market steering support bushing installed. Does anyone know who made this?

So here are a couple pictures of the steering column. Does the upper bearing look ok?

Take a look at the bottom of the upper bearing. Looks like some sort of damage?

Here's a pic with the Mitch Leland Steering column bushing installed:

I recently purchased the mitch leland bushing because I felt a little wobble in the steering column. From the looks of it, the steering bushing isn't my problem so I'll have to look further down the steering column for the answer

Well, while I was working on the car I saw some surface rust on the sunroof spoiler. Some sand paper and a can a spray paint made it look much better:

Thanks,

tyler

Can you post a pic of your steering column? We need to see if the upper bearing is still intact.

bump. anyone?

Well that bearing does not look good. It's difficult to say if the balls will still roll around on the race though. Can you tell by jamming something between the shaft and the inner race if the inner race will turn?

Try a paint can lid or Edge shaving can lid cut into a rectangle and wrapped around the steering shaft. Put the steering wheel on, and turn it. See if the shaft turns without resistance. If you can make the wobblyness go away, then you should be good to go with a Mitch bushing. Last I hear, he was able to custom manufacture to your specs as well.

Is there a written procedure on how to replace the upper bearing? I can easily buy one from the host but not sure how to replace it.

Do a google search on site:forums.pelicanparts.com on replacing the steering column.
