I would like to get to this part HOWEVER I need to separate the transmission on my 1980 911sc from the engine. Nuts are off and loose but will not slide back and off the engine. Haynes has something about a collar and some set screws needing to be undone, but is unclear to me as what to do. I had a 73 911 that just slide back and off. If I missed a tech article, please point me to it. Thanks for any suggestion.

Did you remove the linkage to the clutch fork on the underside? If not, the fork will hold the transmission from breaking free as the fork hangs on to the thrust bearing. Ask me how I know :P

take that Haynes manual and use that as a jack pad. Do not believe anything you read in that stinking manual.

At this state, all you need is to remove the two clutch arms underneath the tranny and the thing separates themselves.

My Haynes manual is good for wiping hands off from grease too, but jack pad sounds perfect. Talk about useless information!

two choices.
the large clutch arm is held on shaft with a snap ring, remove snap ring and slide arm off, then slide off trans
if you can't get to snap ring then take starter off and undo allen head bolts that hold pressure plate to flywheel and clutch will come off when you slide off trans.
