CIS "Reconstruction" Needed
 

I got the engine out of my barnfind SC today and split the engine/transmission. There was a learning curve on getting the transmission free of the engine, but everything went well after I figured that out and using the ATV jack in combination with the Pelican Parts engine tool worked great.

No real surprises except there's going to be some research and "reclamation/reconstruction" to be done on the CIS. There are a lot of things missing from the CIS including the F.I. wiring harness and frequency, I think the frequency valve, and who knows what else (I haven't had time to look into it and identify everything present and missing). I'm sure all this took place in the search for more performance but I'm hard pressed to understand how eliminating that stuff actually did a lot, other then get rid of the cat and alllow a better (performing and sounding) exhaust system. I'm not looking forward to this task, but if I want to license the car it has to be emissions compliant here. So it's going to be educational.

It was rumored that the clutch had been recently replaced (that is, recently before the car was retired from service) but I have my doubts about that unless the p/o was really hard on clutches. The disc is about 2/3-3/4 worn out I would say so it is a definite replace. The pressure plate probably, and also definitely the throwout bearing, pilot bearing, and the throwout fork. The flywheel has some heat marks and some rust but it's smooth (after scotchbriteing off the rust) so I don't think it needs refinishing. Same thing with the pressure plate, but it should probably be replace because of the springs.

Posting more pics around the engine from every side and the year of the car would help.

I don't think you're missing all that much, other than the frequency valve and associated connections and lines, which, I think, would be part of the third line that would go into the backside (front of your photo) of the fuel distributor. If you search for "CIS pics" or similar, you'll find some good shots that would show what you'll need to source. Good luck!

Also, from your pic, it looks like certain things were plugged. Was the engine being run as a K-basic injection system rather than full-on K-Jetronic?

Judging by the hard fuel lines, I'd say it's a late-model SC. Mine has those an it's an '82.

I just did my first engine drop about a month ago, and in the process took a trunk-full of photos before I started pulling things apart. Can't tell you what every piece is, but I can sure provide the pix for others to identify.

Your throttle valve has a short piece of disconnected hose coming off the back of it. Mine has a metal elbow that leads to a rubber coupler, and then a hard line shaped like a 'J' that ties back into the airbox on the driver's side. You can see it running below the heater blower in the pix below.

Measure the thickness of the clutch. They're not very thick when new.

No, it's not a euro; engine number corresponds to what should be in the car. But it may have some mix and match CIS parts. The airbox is pre-'82 for sure.

Could you post the Bosch ID # for the WUR (warm-up regulator) and AAR (auxiliary air regulator)? Do you know what year is the car/chassis? Keep us posted.
