Advice re: Electric portion ignition switch 1976 911
I need to replace the electrical portion of the ignition switch in my 1976 911 2.7L.
The part number for my ignition switch mechanism is 911.613.011.06. I have found an electrical switch part no: 911.613.017.01 which is listed for 1970-1984 cars. Here on our host they only list the 964 electrical switch part no: 964.613.012.00 which is listed for 1974-1989 cars. The question im asking is whether there is any fundamental difference (apart from price) in the two electrical switches? will either work for my ignition switch? Would be interested to hear the experience of others that have had to replace the electrical portion of the ignition switch. Thanks Last edited by pinzy76; 05-08-2013 at 06:23 PM.. |

I have purchased two from our host in the last few years and installed them in an 1980 and 1981 911. The most recent one was just a few months ago, so it probably was the 964 part # (you can always call to confirm).
The part worked fine. Just FYI, you're going to be alot happier doing this if you take the driver's seat out of the car, lay an old pillow down, and then just roll onto your back in the floor pan (with the pillow under you). You're going to hate that top screw, it can be a stinker to get. The first one I did took maybe 20 minutes. The second one took me way, way longer... ![]() angela

Thanks for clarifying.
It was nice to realise my yoga classes came in handy when I was considering how to even attempt this. "That looks very uncomfortable" were some of the comments made when they saw how I was positioned lol. I managed to find a small L shaped screwdriver that should make that top screw a little easier to deal with ![]() |
