another exhaust question for my 2.7 Turbo
 
I am going to upgrade my exhaust this winter on my 76 2.7 Turbo. What is a good exhaust that I can use that will let the car breathe good and give me some more power. Right now it has the factory exhaust.

Also will an exhaust from a 3.0 fit a 2.7?

2.7 turbo?

You need to explain this a bit more. Any exhaust upgrade on a home made turbocharger setup would depend on how the original exhaust is configured.

this is a 2.7 "s" motor that had a BAE turbo installed back in 1977.
The motor had 116,000 miles until i totally rebuilt it last winter. It has the stock cams and the stock CIS. it seems that they used the stock exhaust except at the "y" pipe that bolts to the heat xchangers, here it seems that they used a smaller one and put the turbo in that spot. If you open the rear lid the turbo is behind the motor on the left side. The boost side of the turbo is going straight to the top (intake side) of the CIS. One of these days I"ll take some pic's of the setup. It seems to run good, I just would like to update the exhaust to get some more power.

I think it might be easier to pickup more torque and HP by increasing the boost pressure. Does your turbo use an integral or external wastegate? At any rate, it's just a matter of upping the pressure without detonating. However, once you add more boost you'll create some more questions. Do you have an intercooler or water injection to cool the intake charge? What about ignition timing allowances for added boost? Added fuel? I guess it all depends on where you're starting from.

I am familiar with the BAE set up. It was limited to 7 psi, as i recall. It boosted thru the oem airbox (!!!) and gave some impressive performance over the stock 2.7. I am afraid you will not find any bolt on exhaust , or other bolt on performance mod for that matter. Bob designed the BAE kit to utilize the existing exhaust and intake. I have seen where one person installed the all aluminum aftermarket intake box (he welded the pop off valve shut) and increased boost pressure with a modified wastegate installation. I would be careful since the 2.7 normally has a high enough compression, that any increase in boost could yield you detonation and broken rings, along with your new found power. Convert over to 3.2 or 964 cam grind on your cores, add in a micro fueler (probably still available from HKS), add an intercooler, keep the boost low,and you will enjoy an additional 30-50 hp over what you have now.

I'm pretty sure I have the same setup. I would like to see pics of your installation if you have any. I am running SSI's with pipes that protrude beyond the flanges into the heads, which I think is just the normal 3.0 SSI. The heads have to be machined to accept this, but John Daniels convinced me this was the way to go to protect the flanges. The crossover pipe fit right up no problem. (I think this is what you are calling the y-pipe?). I ran that way for a while, then had a stainless version of the crossover made up (about $450) with extra support at the wastegate flange. Seems to be working great.
