Running rough after 7 mo storage, 3.2 Carrera
'87 3.2 ran like a top before I put her away last year. I left her with a couple of gallons of treated gas. Yesterday I changed the oil, and fired her up. Feels like it's running on 5 cylinders.
I filled up the tank with fresh gas and gave her the Italian tune up for about 30 miles. It felt slightly better when hot but the vibration under load is still there up to about 2800 rpm. Idle is good. Above that it feels smoother but still slightly under the power that I remember this car puts out. Funny thing is pulling a wire, any wire, at the cap and it feels the same under rev. Sluggish. I've changed the DME, pulled the head temp sensor (no start under this condition so I assume it's good), and inspected the plugs (#4 might seem a little wet?). I've also given all of the injectors a little tap thinking one was stuck. Here's some pics: #6 http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1368292494.jpg #5 http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1368292520.jpg #4 http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1368292544.jpg #3 http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1368292562.jpg #2 http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1368292577.jpg #1 http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1368292593.jpg Fuel filter/plugs/cap/rotor swapped about 5k miles ago. I'm at a loss. Any ideas? TIA! |
Clean the plugs thoroughly by soaking in fresh gas. Using a wire brush gently brush the crud off. Allow to dry and reinstall.
It should run a lot smoother and feel better. Works every time for me. |
'Just pulled each injector and #4 made no difference at idle (those injector clips are a PITA).
Pulled #4 plug again and cleaned it with a wire brush. Put it back in. Also gave #4 injector a few more taps when running. Accelerated and Voila! Like brand new! Props to Mighty 2.0 and Pelican. I'm a happy camper! Thanks! |
