perma-tune or msd?
 

I will be changing my cdi box....any opinion on which is better? Will most likely change wires and cap, rotors and points as well. Anything else that should be done at the same time?

MSD MSD MSD. take a look at some of my racing pics. you'll see MSD units in everything from 914s to 956s. i've also seem more MSD units than all the others combined. people aren't using them because they're not good. i've seen MSD on vintage F1, Can-Am, and EVERY Trans-Am, NASCAR, and SCCA pro race car. if it's good enough for a $600,000 prototype, and a $1,300 Triumph, then it should be good enough for you too http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/wink.gif

Ive been running an MSD setup for 6mo. now and I really noticed a good throttle reponce. I also have protronic instead of points. you can get a msd 6al and coil at most any autostore for about 179.00 and 39.00 enjoy! Also permatune is not warranted by ********** so I cant recimend it .Chuck911

MSD. It's far more reliable than the Permatune. That alone is reason enough. And I don't know of any other ignition that can burn through paint from 3 inches away!

So, whats involved in this upgrade to the msd. I have a 71 with a 73 2.4 with webbers, what all has to be changed out and how much better is this going to be over the stock unit?

You'll need a different coil. The instructions in the MSD will cover everything you need to know. You can use your stock points set-up to trigger it or the Pertronix unit. The hardes part is mounting the MSD box. I put mine where the old Box went by building my own adapter bracket.

MSD rules! I have a pair of 6AL's so I could use the built in rev limiter. Change a plug in chip and you change the rev limit.

What is the protronic, I would love to get rid of my points. Also, what would be the best coil to use with the 6AL setup?

MSD is the way to go. I now use this on my 433ci Mustang (11.2 to1 comp) engine now fires up instantly with a few more horses on the top end. I will be ordering one for my 82SC today. this just in from MSD tech. #6A box part #@ 6200, Use Blaster 3 Coil part #8223, tach adapt #8910, final note. DO NOT use any of the low tower coils (Blaster 2) as the voltaage is so high it will flash down the tower to either of the metal connector nuts and burn thru the tower (ask me how I know.)

Anyone have independant dyno results comparing MSD to factory?

I'm not looking for manufacturer claims.
