Recommended exhaust studs
I have SSI's to install on my 3.0l that I bought to put in my 71. Upon inspection, I have 5 or 6 short studs including one that is really short. The rest are longer as is proper for an 82 SC motor. What studs should I buy? Pelican has 3 or 4 different ones that are 8 x 50mm or 51mm that range in price from $2.25 - $4.00. Is there an aftermarket option that is better?
I'll also need exhaust gaskets, those are pricey at $7.50 each, any other options? Edit: I found some exhaust gaskets that came with the motor, they are marked '40' and measure 40mm ID. These are right for my 82 3.0l, correct?

Worst idea ever, dissimilar corrosion issues......you can either have the studs and nuts corrode, or the aluminum head, pick one. That's the reason that fasteners are coated/plated with zinc and copper nuts are used....

I just went over to my local auto parts dealer and picked up some generic metric exaust studs ... they'll be good for another 20 years !
Cheers ! Phil

Or you can make your own from a high quality threaded rod from McMaster Carr. Thats what I did 4 years ago and they still look great. Steel is steel in general. My car is not likely to get "rusty" so they aren't a big concern. Stainless tends to gall so not always great for fasteners.

Best combo I have found is stainless studs with brass nuts.
They never seem to gall or seize...dont rust...and are relatively cheap. Bob
