Not sure about pricing dropping. Just do your homework and find the best example you can afford. Get a PPI and documentation on maintenance is always good with the car..

An 88 targa is a G50 3.2 car. It will probably cost you MORE next year to buy. The market on these cars seems to be appreciating.
In my humble opinion and I did not sleep in motel 6 last night. angela

They aren't making air cooled 911s any more.
The govt, however, is printing $40 billion in new money every month. Thus, each dollar you hold is getting diluted (i.e., less valuable) every day. So, no, at least for the forseeable future (many, many, many years), the number of dollars it will take to buy an aircooled 911 will keep increasing. There's no way around it. |

It could. But probably won't.

If you want it, buy it. They're not going to get any cheaper. I also think fewer and fewer will go to market.

it won't be long before impact bumper cars will follow the recent price spike in longhoods. Not to the same degree, but it will trickle down.

The most important thing is that you will enjoy that particular model. Getting an expert PPI is invaluable for your eventual enjoyment.

If you seek, you shall find. If you we're seeking to buy and found it, seek no more and make the purchase.

Knowing where my car value sits with a 3.0 w a 915...I'd jump on that.

Aircooled Porsches have seen rises in pricing among all groups in the past couple of years. I wouldn't bet on the prices being much lower than they are right now. |

I think prices on non-G50 3.2's have gone up $2-3k since I bought mine late 2011. I don't expect them to get any cheaper.

If you are buying a car to use and enjoy, find a nice one and do it. Life's too short, and if you are keeping it, who cares if the price drops next year?
If you are buying it as an investment, drive for a year, and sell at a profit, my crystal ball is a little clouded...

I watch the market on coupes pretty closely (like many of those that posted above) and I think I am seeing asking prices rise. Its definitely gone way up since the housing bust in 07 or 08. I have also seen several sales that blew me away by their $$$ recently. I would feel confident that you could drive that car for several years and lose little if any money.
I just remembered we are in the spring driving season that always brings an increase in asking prices. If you wait until late fall you might save a few $.

I don't think you want to look at 2-3 year price changes. Just think about 10-15 years from now. If you buy one now it will invariably be worth more in that many years. If you are buying and getting rid of it soon then short term price changes would be more of a concern.

Take a look at the long and very active thread in the marketplace forum. We've been discussing 3.2s for several months.
Going up, and quickly. Most of us don't think it is a bubble. Just advised a family member to ask about 1/3 more than the price of your car on a similar vehicle, though one in possibly better condition ('87 targa 145k mi, mechanic owned and meticulously maintained most of its life). |

Buy.
(as long as it checks out mechanically and it's general condition is inline with, or better than, others in the same price range) If you are buying to flip it in a year, well, thats another story. But, if you're buying to keep the car, you won't get hurt in 1, 2 5, or 10 years if you buy smart. (BTW, a pile of CASH often closes deals ...in your favor...then and there, LOL)

Prices do not appear to be declining anytime soon. People are seeing their money earn no interest in the banks and are saying to themselves that they'd rather be driving their investment than watching it sit doing nothing in a bank.

Targa on hot AZ nights, NIZE
Go for it with a clean PPI for those late night top off rides when it is 90 degrees plus at midnight in AZ(if that is what you really want).
What are the comps you have been looking at?
