Damage To Whale Tail--Thoughts On Repair
First off-I did it so the children and the wife are still alive. Has anyone experienced a spot repair on the fiberglass grill? I would like to know what kind of epoxy may repair the crack and any thoughts on the correct black paint code.
Thanks TG 1986 930 Littleton, Co ![]() |

That's an easy one,, just remove the tail take off the rubber
And repair it with some glass and a dab of filler if you have Any pin holes, the black is black. I have VHt semi gloss and It looks great . You'll be done by the weekend |

A full size cooler as I was bringing it down from the attic. Daughter took off running in anticipation of a lot of foul language as I have spent 13 years reminding them about bicycles and other garage weapons. I suspect she thought this was pretty funny stuff.

That gave me a good laugh! Your family sounds hilarious. Reminds me of mine, and my youth too!

I would suggest using JB Weld and woven fiberglass.
The JB will bond well and handle the heat cycling very well. I have repaired my own Carrera wing as well as client wings with this method. The JB is also easier to work with as it is firmer than fiberglass resin so it will stay where you put it rather than sagging or running. Sand or grind the crack with 80 grit to create a V shaped void. Trim the patch piece of fiberglass and mix up some JB. Apply the patch. Sand smooth with 320 dry and 600 wet. Mask all of the black area with 1/8" tape to get the curves right at the corners. Lightly Scotchbrite the rest of the louvres with either Green or Gray pad, wipe with prep solvent and spray with Wurth Satin Black or another favorite like Rustoleum etc. You will be good to go after a nice weekend project in the garage. (of course you should remove decklid and wing. I typically disassemble the AC condenser and remove the screens. Mask the inside of the louvres off). You can also take the time to Scotchbrite and repaint the screens under the louvres for a fresh look. Cooper Last edited by Cooper911SC; 05-13-2013 at 09:33 PM.. |

You could use a bumper repair kit from autozone. That is epoxy with black filler, I used it on my dashboard with good results.

Thanks for the ideas---good ones.
Is the top fiberglass section with the grill separate from the bottom and accessible by removing the rubber lip? I may try to remove it so I can repair and paint at a safe distance from the car----I have momentarily lost all of my confidence. TG 1986 930 Littleton, Co |
