Bilstein vs Boge, what's the diffrence?

How are the Bilstein front struts different than Boge?

If a Boge strut has a Bilstein insert how different is it from a Bilstein strut with a Bilstein insert?

Also how does a Bilstein housing differ from a Boge?

Just looking to get educated on this topic.

Thanks.

Boge is a low pressure twin tube design, Bilstein is a high pressure mono tube design

Mono tube vs twin tube

Bilsteins handle heat and are rebuildable and custom valveable, they just work better particularly if rebuilt w/ digressive valving tuned to the car setup. Additionally Bilstein insert in Bilstein strut is an upside down design, the heavy stuff is fixed to the top of the strut and this loweres unsprung weight, that's a good thing

Bill,

In summary:
- The Bilstein insert is a good choice no matter what housing you use.
- Then the Bilstein housing has added benefit because it's upside down design.

Is that a good simple explanation?

I currently have Boge housing with Bilstein inserts. The car is a 84 M491 factory wide-body and came this way from the factory. I was surprised that it had Boge with Bilstein insert.
