Manual Cabriolet top frame maintenance and inspection.
Fixing minor irritations on my 83 cab. The washer pump and check valve is done......PITA but was cheap....
Anyways, my manual top has decided to fight me when lifted from the driver's side. The only way to get it to move is from the passenger side. This leads me to think....yeah I know dangerrous.....that an inspection and/or lubrication of the frame may be in order. Anyone BTDT and have any tips? I looked at my cab top supplement from 1983 and there are no pointers. Prefer to make the top frame live a little longer.....the parts are Hella pricey. ![]()

Hmmmm, I did a visual on the allen headed bolts that appear to have plastic washer.....the two forward ones had backed out.....hit them with Lubemaster's dry lube he sent me. Tightened them down.
I still have a difficult time with lifting on the driver's side and have to go to the passenger side....but.....it now closes with a satisfying clunk. I no longer have to get inside to lift the top to align the pins and pull to get it to seat correctly. Now, just a handle twist and the top is locked down. One thing....always make sure the latches are OPEN when pulling the top up.

Joe Bob,
Sorry I don't have any words of wisdom but I'd be glad to come by with my "84 Cab so we could compare the mechanisms. It was rebuilt just before I bought it in 2000 and seems to work perfect. Don't know if that would help or not but I'd be glad to stop by.
