I believe that's because in those days, the targa was based on a cabriolet body, so both forms started out as the same body in white, and there were only two bodies made - coupe and cabriolet/targa.

Just found the same mysterious tag today as well while installing my rebuilt DME by Ingo. First I thought that "OMG, my pan has a hole"! because of the spot was squishy under the coating.
Learn something everyday.

Oh the things you find when you buy a vehicle! My Son bough a 98 Chevy 1500 off another HS kid. He was cleaning up the back and found this! I told him best we didn't take a black light to the back seat...
