short legs - need clutch pedal help

I'm sure that I'm not the only one with this problem:

my legs are a little shorter and I have to pull the seat almost completely forward to allow me to fully engage the clutch.....not only does this put my face about 4 inches from the windshield, but it also causes big problems shifting into 2nd gear (lever hits the seat).

I would like to extend the pedal backward somehow and cant seem to find an extension to attach. I guess a wood block duct taped to the pedal would work...but doesnt sound very safe. Any ideas ?
(besides taking steroids or stretching my legs?)

please be kind.

One of the PO's of my first 911 had the same challenge. He drilled holes in the pedals and screwed wooden blocks to them. I only assume he attached the gripper/cover thingies for foot traction.

Now let's be careful here and not poke fun at the "little people" here. He's asking a serious question. Personally I say "you gotta love them midgets".

on the last one i did for a real short lady, i made a copy of the metal pedal pad from 1/4" plate, curved it like the original and spaced it out with a couple of pieces of tubing that bolts went thru. hang a pad on it and go.

I had this problem with my 914 race car after I installed a removable steering wheel and I added 1 inch thick lexan blocks under Sparco pedal attachments. You can see a picture (#21) in the article I have on how I setup my race car on the PP site here in the 914 section. You'll have to drill at least 2 holes for each pedal to bolt it all together, but it works great! Good luck.

I'm in the same camp - I like to call it "vertically challenged". I noticed at the Autox this last weekend that I was crowding the wheel just a little bit - and I like to sit more upright.

I'm planning on adding about 1/2" when I put aluminum track pedals on - I'll fabricate spacers out of aluminum stock or something. Might help with heel and toe too.

Hi Tim,

Just wanted to add that when my Tim sat in your car (and he is almost 6') he also had a stretch getting the clutch pedal pushed in completely.

Sounds like John Walker's suggestion could work for you.

Good luck!!

I'm confused....I'm no towering inferno and I can use the clutch just fine without having the seat way up. Are you sure your clutch is o.k? Maybe your seat's vertical adjustment is off or something? Mine is an 85 also, so maybe you ought to go sit in another of our vintage just to make sure your o.k. mechanically.

I've got the electric seats with the 2 adjustable switches and have tried a bunch of different settings. My clutch doesnt need to go all the way to floor to engage, but I prefer pushing it to floor just to make sure.

stats - 5'8"
165 lbs
21 " inseam

just kidding, 30" inseam. I'm going to add an metal extension on with bolts/nuts and back my seat up a bit........looks like I have a Saturday project now !

I have the same problem, I used a rubber sanding block from pepboys. Drilled a hole on the pedal and bolted the block with the curvature facing the driver.

Hello

Hint: Pre 76 pedals are adjustable from the factory. Mostly you can get some 20-30mm out or inwards.
