Removing Ball Joint
I have this posted on the 914 page but no responses, so I thought I would try the 911 page.
I am trying to remove the "threaded Pin", P/N 911 341 119 06, illustration 402-00, part number 23 in the 914 PET or part number 25 in the 911 PET from a Bilstein strut. The nut and washer have been removed but the pin will not budge. What is the trick to removing the pin? I do not want to apply heat if it may damage the insert. But trying to drive it out with a drift punch is not working. Any suggestions?

. . . hum . . .
Bigger Hammer or air impact tool . . . I just did this with a 3 pound sledge hammer and full swings with the nut at the end of the threads . . . when you put the pin back in use a little anti seize . . . and maybe buy another nut to use when driving the pin out . . I had to reshape the pin threads on one pin for the nut to go back on and use tap and die to clean the pins/nuts threads Pic of strut (measuring custom raised spindle) - round pin at the bottom of the strut is what you are trying to remove, correct? Yes, it takes a lot of force to get that wedge pin out. Best of luck. Regards, ![]()

try a c-clamp with the nut on the threaded end of the pin and a nut on the other side big enough for the pin to slide through. put under tension, then add just a bit of heat, apply more tension & more heat. the vulnerable portion of the insert is up high and light heating it should not present a problem IMO. you will not be able to push it out completely with the c-clamp, but being under tension some heat may free it up enough to finish it off with the hammer & punch.
it is suggested these pins are single use only to be replaced after removal. id consider getting two new ones as hammer time can compromise them.
