lone red wire running down left hand side of trunk
 

This wire comes from behind the fresh air intake and travels down the passenger side of the trunk to the front of the car.

It is quite a length, could be a PO hack or aftermarket deal, and may be a hot lead to a device or need to be connected to the battery for power...

Any ideas?

Bet you will find that it runs to the interior for something on the stereo or alarm system. Disconnect it and see what does not work!

It may power something up, but as it is, it is unconnected and has been since I got the car last year.

I'm trying to put together a car (electrically) that was left only barely reassembled by the guy who painted the car.

The current flow diagram looks to show a red wire leading to the horns. I made the contact but no luck, as it could be the relay as well.

Just spending my Sunday finding more questions than answers... wouldn't mind a small bit of satisfaction in getting something to work!

any ideas??
 

I've got a mess of unattached wires in the trunk to deal with, and I was picking what I hoped was the easy one first. For kicks I attached it to the horns-- no luck. Of course the relay could be bad!

What is the best way to go about narrowing these things down, especially when they may not even been from the factory?

I know what you mean. I stripped my car down for the repaint and labeled every thing and every wire with masking tape and a description written on the masking tape but the painter (gawd knows why) decided to thread them back throuh panels and rip half the labels off. The other half were ruined by the guy having pushed the car out into the rain, or hosed it down, or something. PITA.

What I would do if I was you would be to get someone else with a 911 to come around and look at where their wires go.

Post a picture and try to track down where they lead and possibly some of us can help.

One thing you might want to do is to go to a salvage yard and buy a wiring harness and splice it in to replace yours if its really buggered up or missing.
