CHT sensor snapped off in head
 
I was changing the old single wire CHT sensor in my 87 3.2 today and it was taking a lot of effort to unscrew it. After approx. 1 1/2 turns it snapped off leaving only the threaded portion of the sensor flush in the head.
I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this and if so what worked and what didn't. I'm thinking about removing the shock and drilling it out, but I'm worried I might damage the head.

I think i know what part you are talking about See if you can use a small cutting disk on it to cut a line into it and then use a flat head screwdriver to unscrew it.

Mine came off easy, but only because I have the engine out of course...:p
Some people reported seized CHT and of course there is limited room to work on them in situ. Since yours was turning you are better off than most but sill proceed with caution. Try drilling a small hole and use an easy out if you can find the room.

Hit it with liquid wrench/pbblaster while you formulate your plan.

I would try to drill it and then use an e-z out.

Suckage. Regardless, sounds like no fun. I'm so glad that when I replaced mine it came out easy.

Yeah, I think I'm going to remove the left rear shock and try an EZ out. Thanks.

+1 on the PB Blaster soak.... That's what I did before removing mine. Sure can't hurt.

Update - the EZ out method wasn't working out, I felt like the EZ out was going to snap, too. I just drilled the sensor from the center 1 bit size up over and over again until the paper thin slivers of what was left of the sensor came out. The sensor is hollow inside so there is a centered hole to start drilling from and it was very easy to keep it centered as long as you don't try to go too big too fast. I managed to save the threads and didn't even need to tap them afterwards (good thing because I do not have a 12mmx1.00 tap!). Only extra parts removed were the LR shock and heater blower.
Thanks for the suggestions and I hope my situation and resolution will help someone else someday.
