engine/tran drop cv's stuck
74 911 So I have everything unplugged, unhooked and unbolted. CV's won't budge. I assume if I start to lower the engine they will probably separate but I thought I was supposed to get them out of the way first and cover them.

Try whacking them with a mallet (deadblow, or something plastic that isn't going to destroy the CV). If you have the 4-bolt type flanges, the roll pins can cause the CV and flange to stick together.

So I've been beating on it with a rubber malet and tried changing the angle of the axle and wacking it by raising the wheel. I see the roll pin in the diagram but where does it go and what is its purpose? also if I do start droping the engine will they eventually separate without damage?

If you start to drop it and they are really stuck, you can pop the circlip and rip the joint apart or tear a boot. Spray the joint thoroughly with OB blaster or other penetrant.

So the roll pins are located where, if I had six bolts those 2 extra bolts would be. They ar not visible on the outside flange so they are located through cv into inside flange. For for extra rotational stability and assembly aligment? Just checking

the pins seem to be there to align the bolt holes. the pieces are held together by the compression from the bolts (there should not be lateral forces applied to the bolts/pins if the bolts are torqued correctly). there are bumps on the axles where the pins go.

flat spatula, flat screw driver, pry.

What worked for me was lots of PB blaster and whacking it with a rubber mallet as I rotated the hub. Here is the pic with the roll pins/ dowels.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1369783236.jpg

I tap it with a small brass hammer as I am turning and pulling the CV! It can take some time but they will start to seperate over time! Just work your way around untill you get a gap and slide a screw driver in to pop it the rest of the way!
