For the benefit of our American friends, Porsche Cars Australia held it's first Rennsport Festival for Australia in Sydney where about 400-500 porsches gathered for a weekend of motorsport and related activities.
The factory sent a 936 (the 1981 936 LeMans Winner) and an RS Spyder as raced by the Penski team in the US. There was also the last 956, driven with success by Vern Schuppan in the Japan sport car series of the day. The K3 was one of Rusty French's and has been seen in the US Rennsport events. These cars were driven in anger at various times during the weekend and the sight and sound was glorious.

The motorsport for the weekend comprised full rounds of the Australian Carrera Cup, the GT3 Challenge (second tier) as well as races for Historics (pre 1980) and Sports cars - which allowed anything else Porsche to run from older 996 GT3's through to 914's - and included the previously mentioned 956 which started each race from the back of the grid and sythed it's way through the field, winning the last race by more than half a lap - a wonderful sight to see such a magnificent type of car being driven hard and seeing the impact of ground effects at work.

There were also three categories of regularity races for the club guys - so about 150 of us got to drive the circuit in anger - we had a blast.

A fantastic weekend for those involved and we hope a great weekend for the good sized crowd which came to watch and enjoy the purely Porsche event.

Tim

Whos bad boy is this? It was parked in our building car park on Friday. Presume it was off to Rennsport. It was the Rennsport stickers all over it that gave it away....

Jason Kirk Photography was there and has a gallery up on his Facebook site of some of the pictures he took.

I don't want to post them without his permission so will link to the gallery for now until I can send him this link and ask if he can share them here for us.

Cheers Al
