Porsche Shop around South Orange
I am moving to South Orange, NJ in a few weeks. Any recommendations on shops out there?
Also, would love to get together with someone who is knowledgable in Carreras to take a look at mine, give it a drive, whatever. I haven't had a car in 20 years and have never owned a Porsche. Not sure what to expect, what it should/shouldn't sound like, etc. On that note, there should be an area in this website for newbies. Some of you guys are knowledgable beyond knowledgable and I don't want to waste your time with questions like, "the lug nuts are supposed to be torqued to 94lbs....do I need a torque wrench to change a tire?" thx G

I would highly recommend ******** in Chatham. Gene and Christian are both extremely knowledable and all around good people. Many local PCAers have their cars serviced there. Christian is also on the PCA National tech committee.

Here's my advice for newbies:
Read the board ever day, especially posts that pertain to a question you have Use the search function. There is an insane amount of expertise contained in old posts. I did a search on head studs yesterday and pulled up a ton of threads with great info. In addition, you can watch the progress of certain people's cars over time...very cool Check the boards at www.rennlist.com. Spread your newbies questions around ![]() Buy a few books. For an overview of the 911, I like Peter Morgan's "Original 911". For tech info, "101 Projects" (by Wayne, our host here at Pelican) is great, and has info on everything from washing the car, to jacking it up, to oil changes, to clutch swaps. Bruce Anderson's book on performance is a "classic", but it can be a bit difficult to follow. Hope this helps. |
