What's the Best Tire for 1977 911S Michelin , Bridgestone or ?

Well I have decided on 16"X6" Fuch wheels and 205/55Z/16 tires.

I have narrowed down to either the Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2 Ultra High Performance tire

Or the Bridgestone S-04 Pole Postion.

Those of you that have tried different tires what do you like best between these two or are there others that you like better.

Please tell me what you think, Pete

Hi Pete,

Two general notes: 1. Those tires you ask about are a couple of generations old now. 2. 205/55-16 is a very popular size and should fit okay on a 6" wheel, but a 7" would be better for that size in my experience.

Now, for recommendations. For a UHP summer tire, it's hard to beat the value of the BFG g-Force Sport COMP-2 (BFGoodrich*g-Force Sport COMP-2). Another good one is the Bridgestone RE-760 (Bridgestone*Potenza RE760 Sport) which is essentially a better wearing version of the S-04. If you are on a budget, I've really enjoyed the Fuzion ZRi that I just put on my daily a few thousand miles ago (Fuzion*ZRi). Any of these three tires would be miles ahead in grip, noise, and wear from the PE2.

If you have the money and desire to step up to a max performance tire, you honestly can't go wrong with the Continental DW (Continental*ExtremeContact DW). This would be my choice for your car. The Hankook V12 Evo (Hankook*Ventus V12 evo K110) would also work well, but they get noisy, harsh, and slippery about halfway through their life.

Best of luck with whatever you go with

-Pete

I`ve had PE2s for about 5k miles, ....they are super smooth riding, can`t see any wear yet so they look like they should last. I got them because they are Porsche N0 spec, T-Rack testing mentions excellent wet behavior and I want the rear to stay put! and Michelins tend to age very well. If you like Bridgestone they have a R-11 that seems to be their top tire now.

I've been running those Michelins for years on various cars. If you don't track it the H rated version will be plenty adequate. And if you ever get caught in the rain they are awesome in the wet. Good on dirt roads too. Spent an hour this afternoon house shopping out dirt roads on them in my '67. Run them on my Subaru too.

depends on how you use the car. If you like sporty driving and hard cornering you may find the PE2s too comfort biased. I had the Pilot Sport + A/S which I liked a lot, direct response excellent feedback, great grip and felt very safe. Heavy steering . Unfortunately these are not available here and I went with PE2. Also if you have 7" rims front you may have a clearance issue with the PE2s, at least I have. For highway use I believe the PE2 would be an excellent choice

use only well proven tires on the 911 and with N marked you will never make a big mistake

I tried Goodyear Efficient grips for 4 days and the car was dangerously unstable

Sounds like Michelins are the way to go

Thanks for the feedback, I am leaning towards the Michelin PE 205/55/16

Not to argue, but if you have 6" front rims I really would recommend Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus above the PE2s. Just based on my experience. PE2 more comfortable but feels like sidewalls are softer than the more direct Sport Plus

Both rub against the wheel arches with 7" front trims on my car

Michelin*Pilot Sport A/S Plus

Could you please post some pictures of your car with the 7s?
Thank you
