Bought the 964 -- vapor lock?

Gents,

I took your input, followed your advice, as i looked for a replacement for the 84 Carrera and yesterday took possession of a '92 964.

THANKS for your help.

BUT, flew to Seattle and drove it back to Montana; about 750 miles. Fast.

Only 'issue' is that when i stopped once for gas and once at McD's, and the car sat for 5 - 10 minutes, she was reluctant to hit the road. Started OK but I had to keep the revs up to keep her running; sounded like what in the old days would have been carbs overloaded.

Drove it a block or two and then she started running smoothly, and we were off w/no further blips.

PO tells me his wrench says this a chronic w/964; something analogous to 'vapor lock'.

YOur thoughts?

AND; she's a cab so i had a lot of wind nose where the lip meets the windshield frame. ANy cure for that? Adjustment? Seal?

Again, thanks for the input. Still don't have room for golf clubs but have a hot rod.

ed

I've had a few 964s over the years, 2 street and 2 track, never had that problem.

Hope someone with more experience can chime in....

Good luck with the car.

Try changing the DME relay (search for threads on this...you definitely need to keep a spare on hand)

is there any kind of check valve in the fuel line or something that maintains pressure after the engine is off?

No vapor lock issue with mine. Been driving the car for over 7 years with no issues. Most reliable P car I've had. Just keep up with maintenance.

As others have suggested.
1. Replace DME relay
2. Plan on replacing fuel filter.
3. Perform fuel pressure test while running and after shutdown and see if fuel pressure is in spec or drops.
