911SC front end noise
 

I have a strange noise that comes and goes out of the left front of my 83 SC. I start driving around curves I get a creaking noise out of the left front area especially as I am braking. I seem to notice it more if it is warm out and I have been driving for a few miles. Once I bring it home and it sits for a few hours the noise seem disappears. I have about 50,000 on it. The shocks are original. Thanks

Front wheel bearing most likely.

Rumbling noise. More pronounced when you corner. If it is one side it will make more noise on the oppposite side of corner (so right wheel makes noise when turning left).

I am also betting that the front wheel(s) lock up more easily.

Cheap to replace and within the means of the DIY.

if you havent repacked (or replaced) the front wheel bearings...then good place to start as stated above. lift the front end...grab the wheel at the 12 o clock and 6 o clock and see if there is any movement...but it is relatively easy to to do...

I have heard in other cars bad wheel bearings and normally it sounds like a bad tire with a groaning type noise. This is a creaking noise as I turn and or brake. It is normally low speed turns also. I drove my car Saturday and it did it often. I drove it yesterday and I couldn't duplicate the noise. It didn't start Saturday until I had driven like 15 miles +. Thanks everyone

How are the sway bar bushings?

They look good

front wheel bearings on the sc are about as stupid easy to replace as they come. when you do them look up how to properly pack the bearings so they last.

I have a creaking noise on the front right of my '82 SC that I've never been able to get rid of :(

This is after checking the wheel bearings, the front suspension and strut brace. Even had a mechanic sitting in the frunk whilst the car was driven along (slowly) trying to work out where it was coming from ?

Mine is a definate 'creak', not a rumble or a scraping sound.

Interested to hear what you find.

I had a similar thing start happening on a road trip a couple years ago. it was the outer tie rod bushing on the right side. Why only the right side? not sure maybe some extra wear from sitting on the low side of the crown of the road? Anyway, worth a look.
