RSR replica interior thoughts..
I'm looking for a little input/help regarding the interior I'm considering for my early RSR replica. The car started life as a '76 Ice Green Metallic coupe w/ cork colored interior. I repainted the car keeping this IGM color; It is one of my favorite 911 colors, and think it really helps in making the curves & lines of the 911 pop.
My thought was to do a backdate on the interior, with a tan RS carpet kit, Cork leather RS panels, Cork leather dash (with center speaker grill), white head liner, and Cork leather early sport seats with perf leather inserts. I will backdate the dash panel as well, with the lwb style gauges, and the aluminum trim panels. I want to combine this with matching cork colored "Carrera" script. I think the color contrast will be amazing. The thing I'm having trouble envisioning is the dash panel itself. I have the aluminum trim panels with the black basket weave face material. I can't quit "see" this combo with the cork dash, and leather covered, cork knee pads. I have searched thru every interior thread I could find, and I can't find anything like this. I have, however, found these two pictures, which is pretty close to what I'm thinking it will look like: ![]() this one has black knee pads: ![]() Has anybody ever seen or done an early interior with cork dash & knee pads. Can anybody do some photo shop work to one of the pics above to add the aluminum trim look to the dash, as the early cars have? Thanks, ~Chris |

Chris, I used to have an Aubergine '73E with a tobacco brown interior. The carpet was brown, the dash cover and knee pads were black, the material on the dash face was brown (not perforated), the door cars were brown, and the seats were brown (not perforated). If you used tan where I said brown, and you skipped the perforated leather (or vinyl), you would be more accurate for a 73.

I'd do one of two things .
Either go full 73 like Jim suggested and go with black dash and knee pads with the Cork leather in the aluminum dash trim to match the door cards or,,, Go the Cork dash, knee pads with a smooth black leather in the aluminum dash trim (not basket weave). However with this route, I'd go with the liteweight black Perlon for the carpet. Otherwise, to much cork for me... In either case, I'd go with a black headliner rather than a white one.

I like the black headliner suggestion, even though it's not correct for 1973. The original ivory headliners look can like crap over time.

That's the only one I had saved. Search under "Rdane" . His car was in Excellence a few years back and came out really really nice...

Christ I'm getting old. His car was in Excellence 7 years ago. This pic shows different color carpet and tan seat bolsters in the Pole Positions...
