The 901 is a dog leg box. Where is first gear fwd or down and back?

Forward left = G50

Nice car .. looks like a tuxedo ...

usually not a fan of the white interior but yours pulls it off ...

Have fun ... they are addictive though .. I started with one and now have two 911's and a 914 ...

Looks great! I like the component setup in the front doors.

If you had a 901 tranny you would have put in about one quart less trans oil than you did.

schumicat 05-31-2013 03:29 AM

that oil incident sounds pretty funny, benny hill theme playing in the background. kind of a dumb pan design. i like the kind that have a wide opening with a screen to catch the drain plug/washer. i don't think you lost all 12 quarts; you should've only lost 5-6 quarts as around 2-3 quarts are stuck in the oil lines/cooler and don't come out and the rest is split between the oil tank and sump. unless you did it twice...

yea .. I agree not major pain ... kinda funny in a way (glad you did not get burnt and also she hasn't kicked you out over it) .. most of the threads here make really clear .. LARGE drain pan ... and most recommend two .. one for the tank and the other for the engine ...

You can also look at the bright side .. you didn't get 12 quarts out .. the most you lost would be 7 or 8 as the engine ..

Now one request .. just so i can show the wife that my oil stains are not that bad ... Post a pic ....SmileWavy

Working on the stains with degreaser

Try using kitty litter, the cheap kind. Grind it in with your foot. Works for me.

JeremyD 06-02-2013 06:36 AM

And tide laundry detergent. Congrats. And BTW it's not really yours until you have bled on it

dad911 06-02-2013 07:14 AM

I doubt it's a trans swap. 1988 had g50 with hydraulic clutch, and different cv joints. It would be a ridiculously stupid conversion.

Shift sloppy? check the joints under the shifter, and towards the back.

Oil spill

My kids called it an Exxon Valdez.
I think we've all had one. What only one?

DRACO A5OG 06-02-2013 11:22 AM

Congrats! Beautiful Cab and Welcome to the Oil Leak world of the 911 :D

80-911SC 06-02-2013 03:26 PM

Thanks for the pic of the oil leak ..

Also I see that adding your location worked ... the cars and coffee out here are pretty good ...

Our new years day runs get close to 100 out of bed at 8 am ... and the anti football turkey sandwich friday drives have been epic in the past ....

Not exclusively.

The 915 is also forward left for first.

The 915 was used between the 901 and G50 from 72 to 86.

G50 was stock for 87-88-89. So, if the original trans is in the car, that's what you have.

The 901 and 915 are Porsche trannys.

The G50 is a Borg-Warner. It's heavier.

Also got a nasty cut above the eye from working under the car. Battle scar, LOL

SLOW DOWN PLEASE... Nice car :)

Also,

Pics help.

You have an M-491 (turbo-look) option. (Unless the body has been diddled with.)

If so, the car is basically a 930 turbo except for the engine. Should have turbo brakes, suspension, etc.

Check the VIN to be sure.

Would look better with the stock Fuchs, IMO.

Nico911 06-02-2013 04:17 PM

If your car is a 1988, your car has a G50 tranny for sure. If not, I would call back the previous owner...

VIN decode doesn't indicate Turbo
