Electric photo

Trying to figure out what the white/yellow wire is doing just sitting off by itself and what its use might be.

YOu know?

Is it the one running alongside the shielded wires?

Yeah, it's sort of hard to see in this photo. It was just taped up.

Ok, well, I haven't a clue, but maybe crack open a beer and spend some quality time with your multimeter. See what kind of voltage it has with the car's electrics on and off, or even just ring it out with everything off and see what resistance it has. That might tell if it just goes to ground, or if it leads to a component somewhere.

Since I see only one wire on the high side of the coil...it may be the original tach wire.
Do you have a Permatune unit installed?
If so...the tach is driven from a different place.

The only 'ODD' thing I see in that pic is a BALLAST resistor sitting next to the coil, which is a definte NO-NO in a CDI system! Is that aluminum-cased coil a Brazilian-made Bosch 0.221.121.001 coil?

Both Bosch CDI-systems AND PermaTune systems drive the tach directly from the points ... the same point that triggers the CDI or PermaTune unit!

Here, this is better.

The tach works and I have a Crane System installed.

The wire isn't hot so I won't worry about it...

Warren, just like Dood, I am running a ballast resistor (the one that cam with my Crane XR700 and Crane coil. My 69T never had a CDI system, what harm is it doing? Crane say it needs to be there. Should I take it off?

John,

No information about the ignition system had been provided when I wrote that post.

If Crane says use a ballast resistor, then it must be a good idea ... for their system! The original application was in battery-coil ignitions ... and, I have no idea why one is used in an electronic ignition system!

Maybe it's one of those wires that you use to hook up the brake lights on a camper. LOL

Warren-I do not have one of those crazy Brazilian coils! Believe it or not, it is a Mallory! Oh boy what a mess...

I did contact Crane, however. They said that their unit uses ballast and have a coil and ballast specific for THIS application.

It would be better if you could post a picture of the entire ignition system.

Hello

The picture shows the 75 only wireloom for the 75 only CDI transformator.

Now it looks like someone hacked it up to add something and this addition is made in a way usable to bring a junker down the street to the next junkyard.

Those wires and crimp connectors are making trouble in several months.

Grüsse
