Early Recaro Tilt Base Restoration Question
I just had my 73 Sport Seats restored by Tony at Autobahn and I want to get the tilt bases powder coated before I install the seats. I have the bases completely disassembled except for the handle assembly for the slider lock. It's held in by 3 roll pins and I'm not sure the best way to remove those. I'm assuming I need to remove that assembly before having the bases powder coated.

why not just blast it and powdercoat together, you'll have a h... of a time sliding everything together after coating, unless you cover holes and where the springs go etc.

Although looking at it closer that bar should probably not be powdercoated but plated.

Yes.. the assembly on both sides was originally plated. I think it would be best to remove them before powder coating but not sure the best way to remove the roll pins without damaging anything

Powder coating makes anything with threads very difficult to reassemble. You may be able to get the roll pins out but getting them back in may not be doable

The can have the shop tape off the shafts before powder coating. That way the mechanism will slide back on and new roll pins can be inserted.

waht about the springs? replate what was originally plated and you'll have to ream out where the shaft slides thru after powder.

If it went together it has to come apart. If you powder coat you should take the time to have the other hardware re-plated.

Tony at Autobahn wanted $500 to restore the bases and now I'm starting to figure out why
