Radio Wiring

I Have a Blaupunkt AM/FM/Cassette unit. Its says it is a model CR-4073.

There are four wires in a single connector in the rear. I am guessing one os for 12v power, one is the common for the speakers and the other two are for the left and right speakers. There is a separate antenna connector as well.

The wire colors are black, white, green and red.

Anyone have a clus as to which is which?

Hi... I'm sorry that I can't give you a complete answer to your question...
But looking from the rear on far right outside:
Black should be your ground .
Red -the 2nd in to left- should be your 12+V switched (ignition)

One of the others I believe should be a constant 12V - Often a yellow

Hopefully another PP will chime in to help you solve your question.

Thanks.

More information.

The connector is square and there is a separate ground lug. There are no other wires.

It does not have a clock and there is nothing to power when it is off.

Re the ground... Many/most Blaupunkts were installed by the dealer instead of a factory install... Due to this they never relied on the ground lug being used so I presume to insure a proper ground they put a ground wire within the loom - Odd but true...

I'm a firm believer, that as nice as these cars are, they should have farmed out the complete electrical engineering to the Japanese.

I'll likely get 'smacked' for saying this, but having owned MB's and P cars for decades... All that I know for certain is that they all had/have great bodies, suspension, ect but I can't say that for their electrical engineers - Kind of a German version of the old British Lucas system

The white and the green wires may be the left and right speaker wires being that your radio doesn't appear to have a round DIN plug for L-R and L+R rear speakers.

Well, I got lucky. I was rumaging through some old papers I got with the car and found a package of papers for radios. Most of them were for a Blaupunkt Frankfurt but one two sided sheet was for my AM-FM Cassette unit. How is it wired?

Red - 12+v
Black - Common for speakers
White (or grey) - Right Speaker
Yellow -Left Speaker

I hooked up my battery charger as a power supply, hooked up my speakers and voila! sound!

Joe Bob,

Not mine. Been there, tried that.

When I wrote Blaupunkt support, they said it was not one of their German units which they support.
